Junk In the Trunk: New causes of autism found in ‘junk’ DNA. Using machine learning, researchers have demonstrated that mutations in ‘junk’ DNA can cause autism. This is the first study to link such mutations to the neuro-developmental condition. This is the first clear demonstration of non-inherited noncoding mutations causing a complex disease or disorder.
